The startup using robots to fix pipelines

How PipeIn is helping to save water in Italy

This week we spotlight PipeIn, a startup transforming pipeline diagnostics. Backed by €850 thousand in seed funding, PipeIn is transforming pipeline diagnostics and maintenance.

Growth Story of PipeIn

Using Robotics to Fix Pipelines

Founded by Alessandro Minori, Marek Murgia and Antonio Misuraca, PipeIn was born from a pressing need in Italy’s pipeline networks, where losses in public water systems can reach up to 40%. Leveraging their engineering backgrounds, the team developed a deep diagnostic system that uses robotics, machine learning, and AI to provide predictive maintenance solutions.

“Our goal was to create a tool that operators could use to allocate resources efficiently and reduce waste”

Alessandro Minori, CEO of PipeIn

PipeIn’s technology is designed to inspect pipelines with precision, offering utilities critical insights to enhance maintenance and reduce losses. By focusing on predictive maintenance, the startup is setting new standards in the industry.

Transforming Infrastructure with Tech

PipeIn’s process involves deploying its modular robotic system, capable of entering small access points and navigating various pipeline sizes. The robot collects detailed data, which is then analyzed using AI to predict issues like corrosion. This targeted approach allows operators to focus maintenance efforts precisely where it's needed most, preventing failures and minimizing waste.

"We’re working on making our technology more user-friendly, ensuring that it can be adopted widely across different industries"

PipeIn’s approach quickly attracted investor attention. To date, the startup has secured €850 thousand in seed funding, which was crucial for scaling its operations and reaching a wider market.

"The investment was pivotal—it gave us the resources to refine our technology and broaden our market presence"

The funding has allowed PipeIn to grow within the hydropower sector and extend its reach to new areas like aqueducts and sewers. These new markets present both challenges and opportunities, requiring the adaptation of their technology to different pipeline systems. With this, PipeIn is focused on improving usability and expanding its operations beyond Italy into broader European markets.
